HISTORY: Established in 1975 as a program to address unanswered needs of seniors in Precinct Two, the senior program was a simple idea with grand plans envisioned by former Commissioner Jim Fonteno. Building on the foundation of this existing program Commissioner Sylvia R. Garcia developed Precinct2gether a 501(c) 3 non-profit corporation. The Senior Citizen Program is one of the departments within this corporation that continues to grow and serve seniors in our community.
MISSION: The mission of Precinct2gether Senior Citizens Program is to encourage social and physical activeness among senior citizens to better enable them to remain a contributing and viable force in their communities.
GOALS & OBJECTIVES:
- Building Body & Mind - Coordinate and deliver activities to keep seniors in shape and sharp including exercise, classes, games, dances, computer classes, educational seminars and tournaments.
- Social Development & Outreach - Establish collaborative programming to bring seniors together through events, activities and outreach.
- Transportation - Senior group use of our fleet of buses for field trips and a Voucher Transportation Program for door-to-door transportation to essential and non-essential trips.
ACTIVITIES, EVENTS, PROGRAMS & FUNDRAISERS: All activities, events, programs, and fundraisers are created to fulfill the goals and objectives. Coordinators and Directors design and implement events and activities, which are tailored to each area's needs. The use of the community centers and our fleet of buses are central to the success of the program. Events are supported by fundraisers, sponsorships and community contributions.
